NPP Presidential Primary Begins Nationwide Amid Smooth Voting

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding its presidential primary today to select a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections. With five aspirants contesting, a candidate must secure more than 50 percent of valid votes to be declared winner. If no aspirant reaches that threshold, a run-off election between the top two candidates will be held within 14 days. Ashanti Region: Early Start and Heavy Turnout In the Ashanti Region, voting started promptly at 7:00 a.m. across all 47 constituencies . A total of 36,626 delegates are expected to take part in the exercise. At the Kumasi Cultural Centre , delegates from the Bantama Constituency turned up in large numbers to cast their ballots. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that approval has been granted for the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to popular American streamer IShowSpeed.The announcement was made public on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, through the minister’s official social media platforms. According to Mr. Ablakwa, the decision followed extensive conversations with renowned Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, as well as further verification of what he described as IShowSpeed’s undeniable ancestral and cultural connections to Ghana. “I am happy to announce to our citizens and compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed,” the minister stated.
